OUR EPIRROES
Messinia, Arkadia, and Naxos are the places where our parents spent their childhoods, shaping the values and traditions they passed down to us. Our land was farmed with unconditional devotion and provided them with nature’s bounty. Across generations, we continue to honor this tradition with gratitude and pride.
FARAKLADA, MESSINIA
In 1947, Polyxeni and Giannis, carry on the olive-growing tradition by taking care of the family groves, already planted with Koroneiki variety from the 1900s, in the small seaside village of Faraklada, in southwestern Peloponnese, Greece.
Two decades later, their son Theodore, true to the tradition of their commitment to olive cultivation, increases the number of olive trees and raises production.
Today, the care of the olive groves has been trusted to his daughter, Natasa, who, with love and vision, continues the family tradition by combining the experience of the past with contemporary cultivation methods.
KANDILA, ARKADIA
In the early 1950s, Christos and Ifigenia, plant the first Manaki variety olive trees and graft wild olive trees in the village of Kandila, situated in a mountainous area of Arkadia, in central Peloponnese, Greece.
Later, their son Panos takes on the care of the olive groves and introduces his son, Manos, to the skill of olive growing.
In 2022, additional varieties were planted (Koroneiki, Arbequina, Picual, Athinolia, Nemoutiana) to evaluate the quality characteristics, which, in combination with the terroir of the olive groves, located at an altitude of 750m-850m, will produce high-quality blends. The cultivation of these varieties is still in its early stages.
NAXOS
The island where our grandparents, Manolis and Angelikó, lived — the largest of the Cyclades, blessed with natural abundance, producing products recognized worldwide for their exceptional quality and uniqueness. Among these, the renowned gruyère and arseniko cheeses, beef, honey, and the famous citrus liqueur.
Through our collaborations with small producers from the mountainous villages of Naxos, we aim to bring authentic flavors and aromas straight to your family table or culinary business, sharing the true taste of the island’s heritage.
“Epirroé” is formed from the prefix ‘epi’ (“upon” or “towards”) and the word ‘roé’ (“flow”). In Ancient Greek, it described the inflow or gathering of liquid towards a certain point – a concept tied to the Latin word “influentem,” which derives from the verb “influere” (to flow in or towards something). This Latin root is the basis of the modern word “influence” in both English and French.
Over time, the meaning evolved from the literal “flow of liquid” to a more metaphorical sense, describing the effect exerted by something upon something else, such as the influence of people or ideas on others.
Our influences… our family tradition of nurturing the land with a deep love for cultivation, starting with the extra virgin olive oil, the most precious liquid gift Greece has to offer.
